PDC Health Hub

The festive season is upon us, and while it's a time of joy and celebration, it can also bring unique challenges to those managing health conditions, especially for individuals with diabetes. Here at PDC we're lucky enough to have a team of wonderful pharmacists who have put some advice together for us to share to help you navigate the Christmas period with ease, staying healthy and happy throughout the festivities. Here's how your pharmacist can be your holiday health side kick:

1. Stocking up on supplies:

One of the key ways a pharmacist can assist you during the Christmas season is by helping you ensure you have an ample supply of your medications and diabetes management supplies. With potential disruptions to regular opening hours and closures, it's crucial to plan ahead. Your pharmacist can work with you to make sure you have everything you need to stay on top of your health regimen during the holiday season. FYI - Our Pharmacy will only be closed for the public holidays.

2. Health Checks for a fresh start:

As we approach the new year, many of us set health-related resolutions. Your pharmacist can provide health checks and assessments, serving as a benchmark for your well-being. This can include blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings, and other vital health metrics. Starting the year with a clear understanding of your health status empowers you to make informed decisions about your well-being. For those in the community who are HBF members, these health checks are free!

3. Rehydration and pain relief:

The Christmas season often involves festive gatherings and celebrations, sometimes leading to overindulgence. If you find yourself needing a bit of support for rehydration or pain relief after a night of festivities, your pharmacist can recommend appropriate over-the-counter solutions. They can provide guidance on safe and effective products to help you bounce back and start the new year feeling your best. We're here to help, not to judge!

4. Sun safety:

If your holiday plans involve spending time outdoors, it's essential to prioritise sun safety. Your pharmacist can offer advice on choosing the right sunscreen for your skin type, ensuring you're protected from harmful UV rays. They can also provide tips on staying hydrated and managing medications in varying temperatures. Not to mention post-sun relief and care if you need it.

5. Wound care:

Accidents happen, especially during busy holiday preparations! Your pharmacist is a valuable resource for wound care advice and can recommend suitable over-the-counter products to clean and dress minor wounds. Seeking their guidance ensures you're taking the right steps to promote healing and prevent infections.

6. UTI testing:

Women in WA are now able to access timely, appropriate, and convenient treatment for symptoms of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) from their local participating pharmacy. A private consultation with your 777 Pharmacist is available for females aged 18 to 65 years old.

  • During theconsultation, your Pharmacist will ask you some screening questions in a private consultation area to ensure you receive the right treatment and care.
  • Our Pharmacists work collaboratively with GPs to improve access to primary care though diagnosis and treatment and potentially avoid delays to accessing care.
  • Treatment options may include antibiotics or referral to a medical practitioner in more severe cases.

7. Last-Minute Christmas Gift Ideas:

Stuck on finding the perfect gift? Left it to the last minute? Our pharmacy has you covered with last-minute Christmas gift ideas. Consider thoughtful and practical options, such as health and wellness products or even a gift voucher for a loved one's self-care essentials.

8. Diabetes Supplies straight off the shelf (most of the time!):

For those managing diabetes, waiting for supplies can be a hassle. The good news is that our Pharmacy often has diabetes supplies readily available on the shelf, ensuring you have what you need without delay.

9. Sleep Apnoea support and at-home sleep studies:

If sleep apnoea is a concern, your pharmacist can provide valuable support. They offer resources and information on at-home sleep studies, helping you take the necessary steps to understand and manage sleep-related issues. Likewise, if it's a New Year resolution to get assessed for sleep apnoea, we can help. We have all the equipment and trained staff available to assist with an at-home sleep study. Alternatively, if you need some new supplies - we have you covered, too!

10. Impromy Weight Loss Program:

Looking to kickstart your health journey in the new year? Our Pharmacy offers the Impromy weight loss program, providing personalised support and guidance for achieving your weight loss goals.

As you gear up for the holiday season, remember that your pharmacist is not just a dispenser of medications but a knowledgeable and approachable healthcare professional. Don't hesitate to reach out for guidance on any health-related concerns you may have. Wishing you a healthy and safe Christmas season!
